Scheduled vs. confirmed: what a planting schedule can promise

Every plant on this site is labeled scheduled. None is labeled confirmed, because nothing this site reads can confirm one. This page explains the difference and what can move a plant.

What CDFW says

CDFW's Fish Planting Schedule carries this notice: “Although it contains current information, all fish plants are subject to change depending on road, water, weather and operational conditions.” It adds that “conditions permitting, the waters listed here will be restocked with catchable-size fish from CDFW hatcheries, according to this schedule.”

So a listing is a plan with conditions attached. It is not a report that fish were delivered.

What this site shows

In the weeks this site has recorded, 2150 plant entries have been on CDFW's schedule at some point, and 6 were later removed. That count comes from this site's own record; it says nothing about why a plant was removed.

What this site cannot show

It has no source for whether a truck arrived, on what day, or how many fish were delivered, so it shows none of those. It also cannot tell you whether conditions at a water have changed since its last check.

Why conditions matter

CDFW publishes temperature and flow criteria for catchable trout. For example, it says catchable trout are not planted in lakes or reservoirs once surface water temperatures reach 78°F and are expected to stay there. The full list is on what is a trout plant.

Before you go

CDFW's page asks that questions about fish planting go to the regional office that covers the area, and lists a number for each region. For any one water, start from its page: find it under its county or this week's schedule. A water page shows when the schedule was last checked, so you can judge how recent its information is.
